The Provincial Grand Master visits the Potters Clay Lodges
Wednesday, 27th November saw the Provincial Grand Master, RWBro. Terence D. Sheern, escorted by the Provincial GDC and accompanied by Officers of Mark Provincial Grand Lodge attend the meetings of both the Potters Clay Lodges of Royal Ark Mariners and the Mark Master Masons at their meeting place in Potter St., Old Harlow.
In what turned out to be an eventful evening, the RAM Lodge Elevated both Barry Bridgen and James Keir in fine form. Clearly some significant effort had gone into the Ceremony by the Officers involved judging by the quality of the ritual and the obvious lack of books. Both said afterwards how much they enjoyed the Ceremony and looked forward to taking an active part in the RAM Lodge in due time. In greeting the two new members, the Commander was pleased to also present the Candidates and the PGM with the 25th Anniversary Booklet which had some very interesting old photographs from 1987 (especially when an eagle eyed PGM noticed a certain long dark-haired, slim Peter Hall who was then ProvGIG and part of the Consecrating Team!)
The PGM was also delighted to present a Grand Lodge Certificate in his informative and entertaining manner.
The Mark Meeting saw the Provincial Grand Master enter officially and, as is his usual custom, accept the gavel and the Chair of the Lodge. He, as usual, took the time to introduce and thank those Acting Officers attending as well as update members on a few Provincial events and initiatives. The Lodge then being returned to the Master, the business of the evening continued. The main event of which was the Installation of the new Master. This was performed in a unique and virtuoso performance (particularly those privileged to witness the Inner Working) from W.Bro. Michael Levene.
The "new" Master, WBro. Andrew Pugh - already a Past Master of Potters Clay - appointed and invested his officers and the Lodge were honoured to receive the Address to the Brethren from the PGM.
Following a proposition made by VWBro. Chris Carter, the Lodge conferred Honorary Membership upon the PGM which he accepted recognising that it was always a privilege to receive it and that he was delighted to accept.
All the brethren eventually retired to an excellent festive board, which included a small presentation of "essential consumables" (of alcohol and chocolate) to the PGM (who also thanks WBro. Richard Goodwin for his "kind gift" of numerous after dinner mints).
