This is David’s diary of his intrepid walk, the entire length of the wall, in aid of our festival.
Arrived in Carlisle on Saturday 8th June, had a good night out
Started the walk on Sunday 9th we were dropped off at the start point Bowness-on-Solway, then walked back to our accommodation back in Carlisle, following the white acorn sign and Hadrian's path signs, the first day we walked 20 miles, all pretty flat. |
Monday 10th, Carlisle to Banks, again following the signs, along roads, across fields and so on, no sign of Hadrian's wall, apart from various churches and buildings that had been built from the stones robbed from the wall.
Tuesday 11th Banks to Once Brewed,( yes there really is a village by this name!!) now the work really started, steep climbs, scrambling up and down hills in the wet, the worse part of everyday was leaving the path and walking the 2 miles or so to our accommodation for the night, but always nice to have a good shower, hearty meal, a pint and in bed by 9!

Wednesday 12th , Once Brewed to Chollerford up at 6 as usual, big breakfast, then walk back to the wall path to continue our journey, again this day was very tough with long steep climbs, but this was the part of the walk with the most spectacular scenery, the best day of the whole walk.
Thursday 13th Chollerford to Hedden on the wall, the usual start to the day, breakfast, walk back to the path, continued the decent from the high points of the wall and back on to flatter ground, but the walk had started to take its toll on my feet, blisters on blisters, very painful.
So far, David has raised over £2000 for the Festival and the total continues to grow.
