I visited Tollesbury to attend the meeting of Saxon Shore R.A.M. and Mark Lodge with a special package to be delivered prior to the R.A.M. Meeting.
Worshipful Brother Gordon Carpenter, who was a Founder of the Saxon Shore Mark Lodge in 1966, had been Elevated into the Saxon Shore RAM Lodge on 6th October, 1975 and so had recently passed his 50th Anniversary as a Royal Ark Mariner and as a member of the Saxon Shore R.A.M. Lodge.
Unfortunately, Worshipful Brother Gordon did not feel able to attend the meeting, so accompanied by W.Bro. Phil Richardson, Provincial Deputy Grand Director of Ceremonies and W.Bro. Robin Morley Scribe of Saxon Shore R.A.M. Lodge, we took the short walk across to Gordon’s house.
We were welcomed by Gordon, suitable attired in his Mark tie and cufflinks, and enjoyed some time with him reminiscing about his early times in Masonry and some of his own contributions, including his “Five Points to Becoming a Mason”, a piece he delivered to initiates before they were presented the working tools.

I then had the honour of reading the certificate to Gordon and presenting it to him, which he was delighted to receive. You will see from the photograph that Gordon then added his RAM collar and jewels before I presented the certificate to him.
I then asked him a little about the 50th Anniversary meeting of the Saxon Shore Mark Lodge, as the Provinces’ 125 Years history book included a photograph of a cake presented to the Lodge on the occasion, which was made by Gordon’s daughter, Alison. He did recall this, and I was then very pleased to present him with a copy of the History Book.
After a few more minutes of conversation about Gordon’s family and his forthcoming plans for Christmas, we wished him well and headed back to the Masonic Centre for the other business of the day.
